Master Food Preservers

Our Mission: In the interest of public health, Barron County Master Food Preservers educate the residents of Barron County and promote safe food handling and preservation techniques.

What is a Master Food Preserver?

  • A Master Food Preserver works with University of Wisconsin Extension to support programming in food safety and food preservation.
  • Master Food Preserver volunteers are required to provide 20 hours of volunteer service annually to UW-Extension in their county, offering training to others and helping to respond to questions.
  • A volunteer agreement, signed by the participant and the sponsoring UWEX Family Living agent/educator, must accompany each application. The applicant must submit a detailed volunteer plan as part of the application.
  • Master Preservers complete 3 days of training and a final exam before they are certified master Preservers.
